Chris M Sutcliffe is a trainee journalist at City University London, specialising in data and online journalism.
This blog is about sharing what I’ve learned on the course, in addition to information about heuristics and thinking patterns that help extrapolate meaning from raw data.
New posts will be up regularly, and should eventually provide a comprehensive beginner’s guide to data journalism, encompassing:
- how to get access to data, by scraping, FOI requests, among others
- unravelling the meaning, and hopefully the story, from the information
- effective presentation of the data
- communicating the findings to an audience
- following up the story
